what to expect

One of our goals is to introduce new young women in the Akron Canton community to the Miss America Organization.  We welcome first-time participants, and we will help guide you through the process of becoming a candidate.

01

register as a candidate

Use the link above to register as a candidate.  This is the first step in the process.  Candidate positions are filled on a first-come first-served basis.  We set a maximum of 15 Miss candidates and 10 Teen candidates.

02

complete paperwork requirements

The Miss America Organization requires a significant amount of paperwork from candidates at a local level.  We will help answer your questions regarding the requirements.  Candidates must submit a resume and social impact statement among other documents.  All paperwork must be submitted by the deadline set forth by the Miss Akron Canton Scholarship Program in order to finalize the process of becoming a candidate.

03

attend forum

We hold an optional informational forum at least one month prior to the competition.  This meeting is an opportunity for candidates and parents to learn what to expect for the day of competition, review all areas of scoring, meet the Miss Akron Canton team and fellow candidates, and ask any questions they may have.

04

prepare for the competition

To prepare for private interview, study your resume and social impact statement as well as current events.  Rehearse your talent selection.  Select wardrobe items for all areas of competition: interview outfit, talent costume, evening wear, and fitness wear (teens only).
